Mr. Sathish Ramamoorthy is the founder of Tree. He started TREE NGO in Coimbatore, with the vision of enlightening and engaging others to conserve nature and wildlife along with fellow conservationists.
Awareness Campaign - Natural Wildlife Education
TREE NGO held a campaign on December 24 th , 2023 called Natural Wildlife Education with the intention of protecting snakes while also raising knowledge about them for people’s protection. Students from Ashokapuram Government School participated in that camp.
SNAKE RESCUE
The camp of Natural Wildlife Education is a facet of raising awareness about snake rescue and how to handle snakes, rather than hitting them. Snake Rescue is an astounding true story about dedicated wildlife conservationists who fight to resolve human-snake conflict in their communities, risking their own lives to rescue some of India’s most poisonous snake species. TREE NGO organized this camp by collaborating with First Heart Foundation Network and Coimbatore’s Forest Division Department.
Purpose of Natural Wildlife Education Camp
Natural Wildlife Education Camp was conducted by TREE NGO Generally, people believe that all snakes are poisonous, when they see a snake, they try to protect themselves by hitting it or trying to kill it. That’s why they do something unconsciously, fearing that they should grab the snake as soon as they see it, that it will protect them from the snake. Some people are at a loss as to how to handle a snake upon seeing it. This camp is for people who are struggling without knowing what to do. How to handle a snake if you see it. But in India alone, 75 species of snakes are non-venomous.
This camp was conducted to raise awareness about the need to report a snake upon sighting, you should report it to the snake rescue team, don’t freak out or try to kill it and take precautions to release it back into the wild. This awareness session also covered how to inform the Snake Rescue Team upon sighting a snake and how they will handle it.
The Natural Wildlife Education awareness campaign highlighted the harm that killing snakes would do to natural resources. The information was shared by Mr. Hari Gokul from TREE NGO and Mr. Gokul Santhanakumar from First Heart Coimbatore. They emphasized the inherent advantages of snake protection.
Why should you rescue snakes?
Snakes are important indicators of the health of the environment and play a crucial role in preserving ecosystem equilibrium. They help control rodents, bugs, and other small animal populations as both predators and prey, halting overpopulation and disease transmission. As prey for larger predators, snakes sustain biodiversity by contributing to the food chain. They promote sustainable agriculture by reducing the demand for chemical pesticides and
indirectly protecting crops through the suppression of pest species. Maintaining the health of natural habitats and promoting ecological stability depends on an understanding of and commitment to snake populations.
Protect nature’s health by snake rescue!
